Betty J. Welty

July 31, 1939 — April 20, 2013

Betty J. (Maddox) Welty, 73, of Hartford went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born July 31, 1939, to Orville and Stella (Blevens) Maddox in Lepanto, Ark.

Betty grew up in the Berrien and Van Buren county-area and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1957. Betty met Curtis Gene Welty and after four years of courting, they married on May 17, 1958. He survives along with their children, Curtis Wayne (Audrey) Welty, Kevin Gene Welty and Candace Leigh Welty; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Billy Maddox; and two sisters, Doris (Harold) Bowen and Sharon Strand.

Betty was preceded in passing by her parents; two sisters, Lois and Dorothy; and a brother, Robert.

At the age of 12, Betty dedicated her life to God. She had a beautiful voice and at a very young age she began singing at church. As an adult, Betty was a Sunday School teacher and the worship leader. She would often be asked to sing at both weddings and funerals, which she would do without hesitation.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Dr. Brenda Chand will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the family or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
